Goal Setting Exercise : BEYOND BOUNDARIES 2010

Over the years the goal setting exercise in GGL has evolved as a complete management training and development program building team spirit, fostering creativity, unraveling new talents and championing the Guardian way of competition and winning.

The countdown for the year 2010 Goal setting exercise started off in December 2009 with the announcement of seven cross functional teams, one of them being the resource team. The six teams under designated team leaders each were given the same topic of Market Survey to find out how Gujarat Guardian and the brand MODIGUARD was perceived by customers and what really makes the company the preferred supplier. Teams also came up with new ideas to sustain the unique brand recall of MODIGUARD in view of growing competition and a fast growing glass market.

Various competitive events were thrown in along the course of the one and half month of the Goal setting exercise, which saw intense competition among the teams bringing forth the creative best among the team members and ensuring that it was not all about work but had its fun moments too.

Among the events were ‘Treasure Hunt’ – where teams went out searching for locations based on clues all over Ankleswar, ‘Rasoi’ – where the teams put up their culinary talents on display by preparing delicious recipes for the entire township and the HealthGuard ‘Chale Chalo’ – where the teams walked daily to earn points.

Teams threw in a lot of innovation and creativity by adding community service programmes where each team reached out to the local schools, old age homes, blood banks and contributed wholesomely for a noble cause.

Loss Control 2009

The year started off on a high with the Loss Control Platinum award coming our way, making it the sixth consecutive one.

The safety streak continued and we touched the 3.0 million LTA free man hours in the month of Oct 2009. As has now become a tradition, this was celebrated with an instant celebration of sweets distribution and address of all crews by the respective Loss Control Ambassadors.

The six zero incentive scheme also restarted with the clock touching the 1 million Recordable Incident free man hours in July 2009. While talking about the Recordable incident free man hours a special mention of C crew has to be made in that they have managed to reach the milestone of 1 million Recordable Incident free manhours for a crew for the first time ever in GGL’s history and they also lead the table for the highest LTA free manhours with a clean slate since the inception of the plant.

When all these were happening the magnificent 2 Million rolling trophy arrived from the corporate to make a perfect timing and each crew was officially handed over the trophy in an instant celebration before the trophy found its pride of place in the Café display.

Among the other highlights of the year has been the education and awareness programs Wake Up-Shake up –‘Steps Towards Excellence’ and the ‘Fire Safety Awareness’. Wake Up Shake Up brought the focus of all floor people to their own work areas as they took round of their individual areas clicking photos of non-conformances and presenting them to their departmental teams and taking the initiative to implement the suggestions also. In all an approximate 300 safety and Loss Control suggestions were implemented by the crews.

In the Fire Awareness drive live demos of fire fighting techniques and quiz contests were conducted in all crews.

The month of April saw the Loss Control Ambassador’s refresher training where the major focus was on the changes in the corporate Loss Control standards in 2009. The Loss Control calendar for the year was also framed with responsibilities assigned.

The whole plant is now geared up in working towards winning the Plant of the year award for a record third time and continue to make the facility absolutely safe for all its employees.

Back To Childhood – a Health Guard Initiative 2009

The Health Guard team along with the Accounts department organized the ‘Health Guard Week’ in the second quarter of 2009. The theme was ‘Back To Childhood’ where the main thrust was on stress relieving through activities that took everyone back to the best years of his life – the childhood years.

Several activities were put together throughout the week and each crew participated at their shift ends in these activities.

A laughter session was conducted where active members of a ‘Laughing Club’ from the locality took the group through a series of different laughing techniques beneficial to overall health and fitness. This was followed up by interactive session with one of the city’s prominent industrial psychologist where she used audio visual aides and made novel use of small toys and jigsaw puzzles to make the group discover the lost traits of their childhood days like innocence, living in the moment, being curious and creating new things.

Finally the proceedings were wrapped up with fun filled childhood games where teams were formed within the crews who competed against each other to win prizes.

Dealer's Meet

All India as well as regional dealer’s meet with GGL’s sales and production team has been a regular event in GGL’s calendar. It provides a platform for customers of GGL to come together and interact with sales and plant people to discuss issues and know the company in depth as well as develop a long lasting relation and bond with the company.
